Aged care home facing threat of legal action amid negligence claims

Arnold Thomas & Becker Lawyers are investigating the alleged negligence of St Basil’s Aged care home after 5 residents at the Fawkner home lost their lives following a coronavirus outbreak. So far, 160 cases of COVID-19 have been linked to the aged care home in Melbourne’s north.

Lawyer, Maxine Radwan, said Arnold Thomas & Becker allege that St Basil’s was negligent in how it handled the crisis and breached its duty of care to residents.

“St Basil’s was not prepared to handle the outbreak of coronavirus and failed in it’s duty to provide appropriate care to its residents. We will be seeking compensation on behalf of the families of the deceased,” said Ms Radwan.

“It’s been such a distressing time for the families and the residents – lives lost that could have been avoided” she said.

Ms Radwan, says Arnold Thomas & Becker were investigating a number of cases on behalf of several families affected by the outbreak at St Basil’s.

Ms Radwan said all direct family members related to a person who died as a result of the outbreak could be entitled to compensation and to contact Arnold Thomas & Becker on 9614 1433.
